Kiwi Fruit Drink, Indian Style

We assume that Kiwi fruit comes from New Zealand. It actually originates from China and was taken to NZ from there. It is said to have aspirin like effect on the blood, reduces cholesterol and is even said to help fight cancer. It is a rich source of vitamins C, A and E! Whether these are facts or not, it certainly tastes delicious. When in season and cheap, try making this drink, it is quite refreshing. Ingredients are approximate guide only, adjust to your own taste. Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 6-8 ripe kiwi fruits

  • 1 tbs. mint leaves, washed and chopped

  • 1 inch piece ginger, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 1/4 tsp. black salt or kala namak

  • 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds, dry roasted

  • 1 tsp. Chat Masala

  • 1 tbs. sugar/sweetener, (adjust to taste)

  • Juice of 1 lemon (optional)

  • Water to make 4 glasses drink

  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make a little stab wound in each Kiwi.

  2. Soften kiwis in microwave oven for 3 minutes on full.

  3. Remove skin and put in a blender.

  4. Add mint leaves, ginger, roast cumin seeds, chat masala, sugar, lemon juice. Blend to a fine puree.

  5. Adjust seasoning/sugar.

  6. Pour over ice cubes in tall glasses and serve chilled.
