Apple Chutney - Devi's
Save Ki Chutney
This easy recipe comes from my friend Devi. It is easy to make and quite tasty. Once made, store in a fridge, where it will last for at least a couple of months. Makes a n average jam jar full.
2 cooking apples( not eating apples)
1 tbsp. Cooking oil
A 2-3 inch piece of cassia/cinnamon bark
3-4 whole cloves
1 tbsp. salt, adjust to taste
2 tbsp. sugar, adjust to taste
1 tsp. chilli powder, adjust to taste
Wash, peel and coarsely grate apples. They should not be grated fine, otherwise you will end up with a mush!
As you grate apples, keep putting them in a bowl in layers, sprinkling salt on each layer.
Heat oil in a pan. Add cumin seeds, cinnamon and cloves.
As soon as cumin seeds crackle, add the grated apple and cook for a few minutes, stirring gently a few tomes.

when cool, add and mix chilli powder.
Store in jars in a fridge. This chutney is not suitable for keeping in a cupboard.
