Ham and Cheese Savoury Cake

This is a French savoury cake, pronounced "salay". It is usually served as a starter and can be made with meat, fish or vegetables.

Ingredients

  • 200g plain flour

  • 4 eggs

  • 8 tablespoons milk

  • 75 gm. butter, melted

  • 150 gm. of grated or small cubed cheese

  • 150 gm. of small cubed ham (smoked works really well)

  • 5 gm. or 1/2 packet of baking powder

  • Heat oven to 180C, 350F or Gas mark 4.

  • Put the flour in a bowl. Incorporate one after another: eggs, milk, melted butter and baking powder.

  • Mix well then add the ham and cheese and mix again.

  • Pour into cake or bread pan and bake for one hour.

  • Serve hot or cold with a salad.
