How to Make Custard?

Home Made Custard

Steve Lister

Making a custard at home is easy. It tastes infinitely better than the one made from instant mixes or custard powder. Custard can be served with many sweets, and used to make some too, like a bread and butter pudding. Serves 6

  • 4 egg yolks

  • 4 tbsp. sugar (normal sugar)

  • 3 tbsp. corn flour

  • 2 tbsp. vanilla extract (not essence)

  • 2 coffee mugs of milk (1 pint or 500 ml.)

  1. Place the egg yolks, sugar and corn flour directly into a cooking pan and mix together.

  2. Add the vanilla extract and the milk and again mix in well.

  3. Put the pan on the heat (medium to high) and stir constantly with a flat spatula. DO NOT LEAVE IT and DO NOT STOP STIRRING.

  4. After a few minutes on the heat it will thicken up, remove from the heat.

  5. Keep stirring for another few minutes so it doesn't stick at the bottom.

  6. Use at once, hot
