Stewed Apples and Apple sauce
Stewed Apples And Apple sauce

Note from Mamta: This recipe comes from my late neighbour and it was a favourite of hers. If I ever went to see her at lunch time, she would be usually stewing or baking an apple for her dessert!
Stewed apples and custard or vanilla ice-cream is one of the easiest, delicious and quick desserts. Try with different types of apple. I usually cook Granny Smith (English dessert apples) or Bramley dessert apples, which are quite tart. If you are using sweet apples, add a little lemon juice. This dessert is good for when apples are in season and cheap. Serves 2
Ingredients
2 Bramley or Granny Smith apples peeled, cored and chopped into chunks
2 tbs. fine sugar. You can use brown sugar of any type
1-2 tbsp. water
Juice of 1/2 lemon, if apples are very sweet
A good sprinkle of ground cinnamon, optional
Instructions
Place prepared apples and water in a pan.
Cover and cook on medium heat for 5-8 minutes, until they look soft, but not completely mashed.
Add cinnamon and sugar, adjust to taste.
Serve hot with chilled custard or vanilla ice-cream. Place apples on a plate/bowl and pour custard over it. If serving with ice-cream, scoop it over the hot apples. It will melt as you serve it over apples, delicious!
Cook in a Microwave: Place in a microwave bowl, cover and cook for 3-4 minutes on full. Adjust cooking time to suit your microwave power.
Apple pur?e or sauce: Cook peeled and chopped Granny Smith apples in a saucepan or microwave with 1 tbs. butter and 2 tablespoons water. Add and mix sugar when cooked, mashing them with a spoon.
Stewed apples and blackberries : Cook with 50/50 by volume blackberries.
Notes
Other seasonal fruits can also be stewed to make a nice, simple dessert.
