Cheese Toast
Cheese Toast
Mamta Gupta
Cheese toast is one of those easy to make convenience foods that most people love, adults and children alike. In it?s simplest form, it is grated cheese on a slice of toasted bread, grilled until cheese bubbles. However, it can be made more interesting by adding various other ingredients to it. Below are a few simple ideas. Amounts are approximate, depend on the size of your slice, amount of other ingredients you add and how hungry you are.
Make at least 2 slices per person.
Ingredients
Basic Ingredients
4 slice of bread (white, brown, whole-wheat, granary or French or any other type you like)
4 slice of cheese or 1/2 cup grated cheese like cheddar, mozzarella or any other cheese that you like. You can even use any blue cheese or a mix of cheeses
Pepper, coarsely ground
Salt is not needed, both bread and cheese are already slated
Other, optional ingredients that can be added
Sliced or finely chopped tomatoes
Chopped green chillies
Finely chopped or sliced onions
Chopped coriander leaves
Chopped ham or other meats
Worcester sauce
English mustard (paste)
Chilli flakes or coarsely ground chillies
Branston pickle
Instructions
Preheat grill to maximum.
Toast sliced bread under the grill or in a toaster.
Place toasts on a plate/flat surface.
Cover with cheese and grill until it bubbles and begins to turn golden brown in places.
Serve immediately, either on their own or with a salad. We love to have a little chilli sauce on the side.
You can put cheese and other ingredients between two slices of bread and cook in a sandwich toaster too.
Variations
Place any of the optional ingredients on toast and then cover with cheese. Now grill.
Or spread a thin layer of mustard paste on toast. Cover with cheese. Sprinkle a little of Worcester sauce on top and grill.
Or place a layer of mango chutney or green mango chutney on toast, cover with cheese and grill.
