Everyone doesn't have a juicer and they can be expensive to buy. I had one, but had to get rid of it, because it takes too much space in the kitchen.

Although most fruits can be made into a drink in this way, soft fruits are especially good for this recipe. It is a fresh and healthy summer drink. Banana, pineapple, melon, watermelon, strawberries, raspberries, peaches, pears can all be used. You can use more than one fruit if you wish. Also see Fresh Fruit Juice, Indian Style.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 500 gm. or approximately 1 lb. fresh fruit (peel and de-seed if necessary)

  • 150 ml. (1/4 pint) water if the juice is too thick

  • 1 orange or 1/2 lemon

  • 175 gm. (1/2 cup) or less sugar or sugar-free sweetener, only if the fruit is not sweet enough

Instructions

  1. Place flesh of fruit, lemon juice, sugar and water in a blender and liquidise.

  2. Strain it through a sieve to remove pips/fibre/skins.

  3. Serve chilled in tall glasses with or without ice.
