How To Make an English Breakfast without Stress

How To Make an English Breakfast without Stress

Meat

A traditional, full English breakfast consists of fried eggs, rashers of bacon, sausage, served with grilled tomatoes, fried mushrooms and fried bread. Toasted slices of bread, butter, a selection of jams and a pot of hot tea are also an integral part of it. To get everything ready at the same time without burning something and free of stress needs practice and some planning.

Here is my step by step guide to getting it right.

Ingredients

  • Ingredients per person:
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 rashers of good bacon
  • 2 sausages
  • 2 tbsp. oil
  • 1 average sized tomatoes or 4 cherry tomatoes
  • 2 medium sized mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tbsp. tinned baked beans
  • 2-3 slices of bread of choice
  • Pot of tea
  • Milk
  • Sugar

Instructions

  1. Start off with a dry frying pan. Place the bread in, cook on a low heat, turning it over. This is to dry it out. This allows the moisture to escape and helps you to keep an eye on it while you are doing other things.
  2. Put the oven on, on high heat, maximum you can.
  3. Make 3 foil bags, to keep the bread, mushrooms and bacon warm, while you are cooking rest of the breakfast; cut 3 aluminium foils of about 1 foot length each. Fold each foil into half. Then fold the edges in a few times, as in picture. Now you have 3 separate foil bags. You can put these in a bowl on a warming plate instead, if you have one.
  4. Place sausages on a roasting tray and put them in the oven. When the sausage are almost cooked, turn the heat down to low.
  5. Add in the cherry tomatoes. They will cook in sausage fat.
  6. By now the bread in the pan should be dried out. Remove it from pan and brush the crumbs off.
  7. Turn up the heat for the frying pan to full and add oil. When the oil is nice and hot, put the bread back in to fry. Warning; it only takes seconds to brown, so turn over quickly a few times as it cooks.
  8. Remove the fried bread and drain on kitchen paper. Place it in a foil bag, seal up and put in the now low oven.
  9. Back in the frying pan, get the mushrooms browned up on high heat. When browned, lift out mushrooms from the pan and put into another foil bag, seal and place in the oven.
  10. Next, get the bacon cooking in the oiled frying pan. Turn a few times to get even browning. Put the bacon in its own foil bag, seal and place in the low oven
  11. Heat a tinned baked beans in a fresh pan (or just heat them in a microwave for 2-3 minutes just before serving).
  12. At this point the pan will be full of bits so clean it out and re-oil. Fry eggs as you like them; sunny side up, turned over (easy over) or with yellow broken and eggs cooked on both sides.
  13. To plate up, just open up the packets and dish out as in pictures!
  14. Serve with extra toasts, butter, a selection of jams and a pot of fresh tea.
  15. Make a few extra toasts in a toaster.
