How to Shred or Thinly Slice Leafy Vegetables

When you need finely shredded strips of a leaf vegetable, there is a simple technique that makes it easy for you to do this. All you need is a chopping surface and a sharp knife and the follow the technique below.

Ingredients

  • Spring Greens or Cabbage leaves

Instructions

  1. Wash and drain the leaves. Shake water off.
  2. Remove the central stem as shown in picture 2.
  3. Place several leaves on top of each other making a layer of leaves, picture 2.
  4. Roll leaves into a tight cigar shaped roll, picture 3.
  5. Then cut through with a sharp knife into strips as thin or thick as you need. For fine shredding, cut at 1/16 to 1/8-inch intervals. Pictures 4-5.
  6. If you don't want very long strands, cut across the middle of all the shredded leaves, reducing their length to half, picture 6.
  7. Untangle by lifting portions and shaking them.
