How to Freeze Fresh Ginger Root
How to Freeze Fresh Ginger Root
We are all familiar with times when we need ginger in a recipe and realize that we have run out! Or there is a time when you have a cold or sore throat and want to make some ginger tea, with as little effort as possible! Sometimes you are in a hurry and wish you had ready to use chopped ginger.
For this reason, I always keep some in my freezer. It is easy to make, here is how.
Ingredients
- A few roots of ginger, I usually freeze about 300-400 gm at a time.
Instructions
- Peel, wash ginger and grate or chop in a food processor to as fine as you want.
- Place either in ice-trays or drop small teaspoon full size piles on a foil or baking.
- Add a few drops of water to each pile/boxes of ice tray. This will help to keep the grated ginger together, so you can bag it easily.
- Place trays in your freeze for 1 to 2 hours, until solid.
- Remove ginger cubes/piles and place in freezer bag.
- To use, simply remove as much as needed and use in recipe. Unless using in a salad, thawing will not be necessary.
