Green Beans and Paneer (Indian Cheese) Dry Curry

Note from Mamta: This mild dish is an invention of my elder sister Abha, it is easy to make and quite delicious. You can use other green beans.

Serves 4

Ingredients

  • 250 gm. green beans of any type, topped, tailed, de-stringed and very finely sliced
  • 100 gm. Paneer, crumbled
  • 100 gm. (1 medium) onion, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 tsp. oil
  • 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds or jeera
  • A pinch of asafoetida or hing
  • 1 tsp. coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. salt, adjust to taste
  • 1/4 tsp. garam masala

Instructions

  1. Steam beans in microwave, on full, for 4-5 minutes. You can steam them on stove. They should remain crunchy and not become soft.
  2. Heat oil in a wok or karahi. Add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  3. When the seeds crackle, add onion and fry until soft, but not brown.
  4. Add all other ingredients, except paneer and garam masala. Stir fry for 2-4 minutes.
  5. Add paneer and garam masala and stir it in.
  6. Serve hot with Paratha, Plain or as part of an Indian meal.
