Over on the BBC Food Chat board people sometimes discuss which MK recipes are their favourites; the ones they've had most success with or which have impressed friends and family the most or simply the ones they love and make again and again.

Thought it might be interesting to ask the same question here on the site...

If it's being cooked by mum, my favourite is probably her lamb curry or maybe keema.

If Pete and I are cooking I love tandoori chicken 1 and shahi paneer 1, amongst others.

I try to alternate trying a new recipe with an old favourite. But the ones I keep on coming back to are the beef Madras, the Sri Lankan Chicken Curry, and the Pork Vindaloo (my No.1)

I love the 'lift' given to these dishes with the inclusion of vinegar. Perhaps I just have a tart tongue - I can munch my way through a bucket of Mamta's Indian Coleslaw for lunch and even feel healthily virtuous at the same time!

"I just have a tart tongue"

ROL!

Thanks Mamta LOL!

Perhaps I should rephrase that as "my tongue has demanding sour taste receptors." Here is a picture I drew earlier of my tongue for you. http://encyclopedia.farlex.com/_/viewer.aspx?path=hut&name=0013n027.gif

However hopefully what my tongue emits verbally is dominated by the sweetness receptors - though still working on the alchemy to make it silvered.

Ha haaa! I have the opposite, my tongue is overly sensitive to bitter/ sour tastes to the extent that a wine that is pleasantly medium-dry or even verging on medium-sweet to someone else tastes like vinegar to me! Really dry wine or a sharp lemon sorbet literally makes my jaws lock, which is painful!

Yeah, Pete and other friends take great amusement in insisting that a lemon sorbet one of them has ordered isn't sharp at all and why don't I taste it only to watch my face contort as a result. This greatly amuses! The worrying thing is that I continue to fall for it every now and then!

Kavey - are you sure your tetanus is up to date? We don't want you getting lock jaw!

Just seen your foody blog - great reading!

Yeah I have a little vaccination certification book and my GP offers a travel clinic which one of the practice nurses runs. I always check I'm up to date before heading off to far away places!

When I was a kid my jaw would click quite often when I was eating or talking (niiice) and lock randomly too but these days it only locks when I eat the sharp stuff - I assume my muscles simply contract in reaction and pull some element of my jaw in such a way it just kind of locks in. It comes out pretty easily though with quite a bit of discomfort.

Without doubt, Steve's chicken bhuna: the complex flavours and magical warmth make my partner wish she could have it every night, seriously! It's hard to find worthy alternatives...

Mamta's mackerel fishcakes are also very special: every person who has tried them has asked for the recipe, and went on to make them themselves, even people who "don't really like spicy food".

Many many thanks for all your wonderful recipes and inspiration, when's Mamta going to publish an encyclopedia?!

Hello marineblue

As said before, I am not young, pretty or famous ;-)! So who will buy my book LOL! Thanks for the complements. Steve's chicken is rather nice, isn't it?

I really like the Sri Lankan Chicken, as have all the people I have cooked it for. What I really love about this site, are the fantastic tips, not only from Manta, but all of the contributors on the forums. I have been cooking curries for over forty years now, but who says an old dog can't learn new tricks, I have learnt plenty from this wonderful site.
