Once you have made the gravy and added chicken to it, it shouldn't look too dry. If it does, add 1/2 a cup of water. The amount and thickness of gravy is your choice.
When I cook with the lid closed, I don't forget about it, but keep an eye on it while I do other things in the kitchen. If you have some liquid in it and you are cooking it on low heat, it should not burn, unless you forget about it. Hope your dish comes out nice today.
