Is unrefined palm oil used in Indian cookery, and if so is there a specific use for it?

It seems more used in African and South East cookery but is sold by 'Spices of India' so presumably has some use in Indian cusine.

I bought some a while ago and have been using it occasionally. I was just wondering if it was used for anything specifically in Indian cooking. Because it is unrefined I was under the impression that the smoking point would be lower, so I have just been mixing some of it into certain dishes midway through the cooking process. I think it has a nice flavour to it I think, although others have disagreed with me lol.

I am not familiar with the use of palm oil in Indian cooking, I am not even sure if palm is grown in India. It is possible that some is grown and produced now, I left more than 40 years ago!

I do remember that some of the soaps we used to have contained it, it is supposed to be god for the skin. I tend to use rapeseed oil mainly, and mustard oil for vegetables bhajies/sabjies/curries.
