Hi,

At my local Indian restaurant they serve a really tasty Tandoori Paneer dish which I have never been able to replicate. Does anybody have any bight ideas of what I should marinade the paneer in, for how long and what is the best way of cooking it.

Thanks

Hello Bhawana

See:

Tandoori Paneer 1

Tandoori Paneer 2

Each restaurant will have their own version, so it may not be quite what you are looking for.

is it possible to make tandoori paneer dish using microwave. dont have oven :(

Hello Sneha

What a lovely name incidentally! Last time I tried to do it in microwave, they kind of burst and went all over! I am not a fan of microwave cooking.

Make them in a frying pan, tandoori paneer will cook perfectly fine in a non-stick or heavy bottomed frying pan.

for cooking tandoori paneer in heavy bottomed pan how much oil will be required. is it required to cover the pan?

On 26/09/2006 04:09pm, Mamta wrote:

No, no. Not that much! Only enough to stop them from sticking to the bottom. It is just like frying aloo tikki.

Mamta, in order to save on calories, I have successfully dry-fried paneer - and it comes out very well. As you know paneer has quite alot of fat in it already, but if you really want to use oil, I would say no more than a teaspoon of oil in a medium sized frying pan, you just want to lubricate the surface of the pan.

Thanks very much for this Mamta - I have enough paneer in the freezer to give both recipies a try this weekend - I can't wait!

paneer cooks really well on a non stick tava/griddle as well...

everytime i make a paneer sandwich, i just cut thin slices of paneer just like cheese..and put them on the tava/griddle...without any oil...till they are light brown on both sides...and use it...

it becomes soft..and melts in ur mouth.

Thank you for your tip Sia, I have added it to both the Tandoori paneer recipes, check it out.I did not remember your full name, I know you have told it to me before!

Hello Sia,

Do you get pre-prepared paneer in Houston ( I'm pretty sure, from an earlier helpful message from you, that you're from Houston, Texas)? Or do you make your own?

I haven't seen it here in Austin. Should I expect to? If so, maybe I should look harder

Cheers

Hi Mamta,

I made Tandoori Paneer yesterday using both of your recipes in one go!! I used recipe 1 but also added a bit of yoghurt and a tsp or so of tomato puree. I dry fried it as recommeded and it was absolutely fantastic!! I think I will tweak the ingrediants a bit th next time - a bit more chilli and salt but apart from that, I think it could quite easily rival that at my local restaraunt!!

Thanks again :-)

I've seen packets of paneer in Tescos -usually in the special cheese section. but asian grocery shops will usually have paneer.

Yes, certainly in the UK many supermarkets, particularly larger size ones, do indeed stock ready-made paneer and, as per the regulations here in the UK, a full ingredients list together with nutritional information is provided on the packet.

Hi again!!!

I like chillie paneer, and wondered if anyone knows a simple way of making it?

On 15/11/2006 04:11am, Mamta wrote:

Hello Khicheri

Try this Chinese recipe, using paneer instead of Tofu; Tofu in Chilli oil

I will try writing down the exact steps as I make it next time I am making Chilli paneer. There are just too many things waiting to try at present!

Ash, we have no idea!! We are just a family-run website sharing recipes... we do not work in food industry or have any commercial contacts! Good luck!

Hello Ash

If you go to any of our recipes, each one gives you a link to an Asian food supplier called 'spices of India'. I am sure they will be able to supply you if you ask them.

If you do contact them and if you tell them where you got their name from, we get a very small amount paid to us, which helps to cover the running costs of this free website.

Cheers!

Just a heads up that Sia's comment was posted in 2006 so chances of her still being here/ seeing your question are small. You never know, though!
