Hi!

I am sick and tired of making chapathi dough every other day. Does any one of you have any suggestions regarding the stand mixers that make dough? Which brand is good and economical?(Kitchen aid, sun beam, hamilton etc). I dont want to spend $300 just for mixing dough....so please let me know if any one of you had some good stand mixer to make chapathi dough 2 or 3 times a week for 2-3 people.

Thanks,

Saumya

If you have a food processor, that will make a perfectly good dough.

Saumya, I use and old mixer given to me by my mother (when she was clearing the kitchen out). Its a simple cheap one with "dough hooks" that rotates the bowl as well as the hooks as it mixes.

dough hooks aren't like whipping balloons they are a long winding spiral.

orry, I must have missed this posting!

As Steve says, any processor with dough hook will do. I have even made it with chopper blade too, many, many times, making sure that you do not over mix it. That makes it too stretchy to roll out.

If you have a bread machine, you can make dough in that too. Just don't leave it on once the dough is done, otherwise it will ferment a little, even without yeast

A programme I was watching the other day said "all" flour has some natural yeast in it ! - They didn't quantify it anymore than that but it would explain why flour mixes will rise even without yeast or baking soda.
