Hi everyone,

I cook Indian food day in and day out and use the same brand of spices (Jalpur Millers in general) but wondered which brands everyone else uses and where you tend to buy your spices from?

i'd love to know

Hi Meera

Thanks for coming across to the forum to post your question, I think it'll be a better way to get responses not only from Mamta (mum) but other regulars.

I'm based in London, I buy my spices either from the small local Asian grocery shop near me, from some Turkish shops also local to me that stock some of the ingredients, and also when I visit mum in Luton and we pop to the shops there. She has much wider variety of shops selling these ingredients, as there are largee Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi populations there. She has various groceries, a cash and carry (although I'm not sure that's still open any more, I've not been for long time).

Hello Meera

I buy many different brands of spices, but never the tinned ones. They tend to be old...ish in my experience and you can't see what you are getting. It will be wrong of me to give any particular brand names here.

Things like Garam masala, ground cumin, ground roast cumin, Panch Pooran, Curry Powder, Chat Masala, Kashmiri Masala,

Sambhar Masala etc., I mix/make my own, but not always. I do buy them ready-made from time to time.

I buy many things in large...ish packets and store them in a drawer in my freezer, so they remain fresh until I need them.

I hope this answers your questions?
