I have been trying to get a list of recipes that use gram flour but seem either to get lots of recipes or no results at all when I use +, "xxx" etc.

  1. Am I searching wrong?

  1. Are there such recipes here?

  1. Or any suggestions?

I've just put the single word 'gram' into the search and indeed it pulls up a lot of recipes, all that I checked used Gram flour in them !

Steve - are you sure?

When I try it only half use flour, rather than some other sort of "gram"

Pretty sure, all the ones I clicked on had Gram/Besan Flour listed in there. However it will pull other things up that mention it but don't use it etc. If you put "flour" it will list all recipes that use any type of flour or mention it somewhere in the text.

To get the most recipes with gram flour in them, put "gram +flour" (without the speech marks) into the search. You could try then adding "+besan" as well

'gram +flour' (without the apostrphes) is working for me!

Hmm. The problem is that the search facility isn't quite a sophisticated as it needs to be for this kind of query.

The excellent suggestion of 'gram +flour' will indeed pull up recipes using gram flour - however, it's searching for the two words seperately so you will get, for example, chocolate chip cookies which lists 'flour' (in various forms) and 'gram' (as a unit of measure).

So it works to the extent that it will find every matching recipe, but it will also throw up some extra ones that don't actually use gram flour.

Sorry about that; in my defence that search engine was built about a hundred years ago when we had 200 recipes to work with :)

Thanks Ganders - I thought it was me!

Just done the search using google for this site only, which selects what I want, but obviously not in Mamta's format.

Many websites incorporate google search, but I've no idea if this is free or not!

Meanwhile, search for besan and you will get all the recipes using gram flour :-)!

MamtaJI indeed!

Why didn't I think of that? Lack of Hindi I presume.

So you will always have written "besan" and just mentioned "gram flour" for clarity.

But the word does not appear on my Natco pack - not in Roman script!

Any easy and good recipe focusing on the ingredient you would suggest?
