This is a six part debate about raw food vs cooked food. It's quite interesting in some ways and I hope you can get around to watching it.
My apologies for adding the links this way, but due to the spam filter on this forum it wouldn't let me add all the links in one post.
Sorry John - couldnt get past the pronunciation of "erbs" instead of herbs, kept thinking of inspector Clueso.
Stuck with it for a little while and then had to go off as there was a spoon in my fork drawer that needed sorting.
Concentration isnt what it used to be!
Maybe someone could give me a very brief synopsis
Regards
"Stuck with it for a little while and then had to go off as there was a spoon in my fork drawer that needed sorting. " LOL....
I saw a programme on the TV recently about people who only eat raw food. Nothing wrong in that, I eat salads all the time, but they kept mentioning the 'beneficial enzymes'. I was very puzzled, these would be plant enzymes, which would be broken down by our own enzymes (proteases) in our stomachs when eaten.
Plant enzymes can't be used by the animal body, they have specific roles in plants (and likewise in animals) and never the twain shall meet.
Although I have nothing against the people who follow these practices (live and let live) they do seem a little misguided.
Started watching it John, but got side tracked. I have a busy weekend ahead, unfortunately, so will try to watch later. It will take a while to watch all 6. I have seen number 1.
This has nothing to do with your links John, except that it served as a reminder; One of my father's brothers used to go on a raw food diet for 3 months every summer. He would eat everything raw, fruits and vegetables. He would not touch any cereals/lentils etc, not even nuts for 3 months. We all thought he was NUTS, but he swore by it. He had a massive thyroid Goitre (the only one in the family to have it), which I am sure had no links to his raw diet!

Yes we can live off raw food (including meat) as thats how we used to live many generations into the past... however we have busy lives now and spending all day eating carrots and nuts doesn't fit in to well with 10 hour shifts and them coming home to do the house work... you need good food that is easily digested etc...
Ray Mears (the tv survival chap)did a series on what we used to eat (caveman and onwards) and discovered many things were almost inedible until cooked as our systems couldn't do anything with them.. some were even toxic !

I have seen all 6 videos now. So nothing has changed, fad diets are not necessary and don?t do any good, contrary to claims. It was interesting how little we realise that we are ?cooking? so called food without realising it, even when we don?t use any heat source!
So, no need to change my diet, which is a mix of raw and cooked. I could do with a bit less weight, but that is another story!
Thanks John .
