Does anyone know if you can eat aubergine raw ?
I ask as I ordered something on holiday called "a grazing tray" which went on to say a selection of fresh vegetables for you to pick and choose as you please! I thought great with some dips it would make a different and light lunch ! so on my plate I got a peeled but uncut carrot, a red onion (again peeled but not cut up), a whole aubergine, a very large tomato and a courgette and a little lettuce !
So I presumed I was just supposed to cut, bit, pickup etc as I saw fit - Which I did, and I'd ordered some dips so I was happy enough. The aubergine did seem a little bland and rather difficult to cut up with a normal eating knife but I managed....
However when the bill came (and no one had said anything to me) it was listed as "Grilled Vegetables" !! Which then got me thinking was I supposed to pick and choose and tell them to slice this, fry that, top with this ??? but again no one said anything like "why didn't you ask us to cook your veg" so I'm not sure....
anyone ?

I've never come across aubergine eaten raw, I must admit!
What a confusing experience! :)
Apparently not Steve. See here http://www.pfaf.org/database/plants.php?Solanum+melongena

I've asked on a site with lots of Greek users and they don't know of any dish like this either !
