Hello

I had wonderful pilau rice in a restaurant made with brown basmati. I have bought a big bag and would like to know a good recipe for pilau using brown basmati. I make wonderful rice with white basmati but I understand brown needs to be treated differently.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

James

I'd guess more or less the same, only a little longer in the cooking.. ?

Hmm, I'm not sure I've ever cooked brown basmati...

That's interesting, James.

I've never tried brown basmati, which is, I take it, basmati with the husk on.

I have bad memories of almost indigestible whole-grain rice, from my Hippie days. I've forgotten the name they gave to that kind of rice diet. It was pretty dire.

But perhaps I might change my views.

Hi Phil

I'll give it some experimentation and let you know how it goes. Who knows, maybe I can tempt you back to your hippie diet if it works well!

Thanks

OK, James: you're on!

I've just remembered: it was called the macrobiotic diet, which I adhered to when living as a hippie vegetarian in the cottage of the drummer of a Scottish hippie band called 'The Incredible String Band'.

Those were the days!

I prefer brown rice to white, it has more flavour and I can eat it without anything added (sauce, gravy).

Never had Brown Basmati Pilau before though, I'm intrigued.
