Hi Mamta.
I'm going on a icnic soon and we are all taking a few dishes each. I wondered if you could give me some ideas for asian food suitable for a picnic.
Thanks
Hello Simi
Is it vegetarian food or non-vegetarian food you are looking for? The typical picnic food from north India is something like this;
Potato bhaji for train journey and Poori
Other seasonal vegetable bhajies, some fresh fruit or sweets and pickles. These things are then packed in a Tiffin. Everything is eaten cold. just thinking about it is making my mouith water!
You can make these the evening before and pack in the morning.
then you could make snack like things;
samosa, pakoras, halva etc.
If non-vegetarian, you can pack some shami or sheek kebabs, which are quite nice cold too.
If you have a large thermos, you can take some lassi.
Tell me what type of picnic it is, what is the weather like where you live and how much cooking you want to do.
I haven't been on a pic-nic for years, but one full of samosas, kebabs, plenty of salad, maybe some cold rice dishes... sounds great !

I am in UK and it is summer here. I would like to keep it as simple as possible. Non veg or veg i dont mind. X
Make meat kebabs and take a salad to serve with them.;
This Apple and onion salad is very good.
Both can be made a day in advance and kept in the fridge.

I always take veggie food to a picnic. Problems are keeping meat dishes at the right temperature, not so important with veggie food.
Love Potatoes for the train (we call them Railway potatoes) and do a chickpea dish along with samosas and a rice and dal mix. Don't mind eating any of them cold but we have "hot" containers so they are ok.
Also do like roti with any filling - made like wraps and another favourite is potato sandwiches with coriander chutney. Making me hungry now :-)
Hello Mamta,
Checked receipe for Apple and onion salad - nothing there, it sounds delicious!
Can you post it for me, thanks Nancy (_)
Sorry, the link didn't work. I should check, shouldn't I!!!
