Can you pickle meat for long term storage? If so is the taste OK?

I've done a fair bit of vegetable pickling but I just haven't had much luck with pickle recipes for anything other than veg. (Roll mops, Bombay Duck etc excluded).

Try Prawn Balchao Pickle, it is very tasty.
