Hi Mamta,
Firstly made the Sri Lankan chicken curry last night and added extra chilli (both powder and fresh) and it went down very well indeed.
We were talking about Indian dishes at large and the variety of recipes for the ? same dish. A cross generational debate happened about a dish called 'Pepper water and dry fry' . I have not come across this recipe in any of the Indian cookbooks I have but the 'old' aunties swear it is abonafide dish. The curry is dry and mild usually made with beef and there is a separate watery gravy which contains tamarind or lemon juice and is usually hot as in chilli heat. Usually served with white rice. Then the 'discussion' went further when the aunties were comparing recipes.... what a laugh. Anyhow I told them of your interesting site and I would pose the question to you. I have scoured your list of recipes however am unsure if there is an Indian name and not an anglicised one for this dish.Cheers JL
Just one addit to the last post.... it can also be made with mutton, and is sometimes called 'mutton pepper water' Not sure if this is any help.
Cheers
June
Hi JL
I am not familiar with this dish. It may be a south Indian/Anglo-Indian dish. Could it be one of the following? ;
