Hi, has anyone tried adding peanut butter to a curry? Some curries call for ground nuts but if I didn't have any to hand, would it be ok to add peanut butter and if so, what stage of cooking would be the best time to add it? Thank you!

I dare say something like a korma or maybe a pasanda probably lends itself very well to adding peanut butter... add it once the sauce is made.. It might split/burn if you put it in at the start ?

Hello Savs

I have not used peanut butter in a curry, but it may work. Just remember that it has added salt. Most of my curries are north Indian and do not have ground peanuts. In some dishes, I do add peanuts, but generally whole or halved or crushed.

Yes, chunky one will probably work better Steve.

Peanut butter in a curry ? now where did you get that bright spark from? I would give it a miss and use it where it belongs - in a sandwich.

I think it would be excellent. It's essentially just ground peanuts.

Given that many curries have crushed nuts in them, it's hardly that surprising, just a clever shortcut.

I'd certainly love it in a couple of the Thai / coconut milk curries, as I think coconut and peanut are excellent together...

The challenge is not to dismiss the idea because it sounds strange at first glance.
