Hello Amanda

There are some sugestions under Menu Planning, look under Advice button at the top.

Basically, Indian meal is served as;

Things served with drinks

All main meal dishes together (buffet or sit down)

Dessert

Mukhwas,like paan or other moth freshners

However, you can serve it as different courses; a starter-say a paneer tikka/potato chop/onion bhaji with sliced onion/tomato salad/a spicy soup, then a second course-say a light biryani with salad, then a third course of your main vegetable curry (dish with gravy) and bhaji (dry vegetable dish without gravy), dal/rajma/kidney beans etc. as protein dish, a raita, chapatties/nan/tabdoori roti/paratha/poori (last two are usually served only at evening meals or special occasions), roast popodoms (Indians don't very often eat fried popodoms), a salad of choice. Dessert can be any one of the kheers/kulfi/Western dessert, fruit salad with kulfi or ice-cream.

I would suggest that you make a list of what main ingredients are in season/you like, then search this site for the dishes. The number will depend on how ambitious you want to be and how good eater your friends are. There is nothing more annoying than going to great lenghts and then having the guests who only pick at food.

Have a great party!
