Does anyone know the name for these dried red chillies? It just says dried red chillies on the bag and I'd be interested to know what they might be. I sewed some seeds from a dried pod a few days back and I noticed today that two of them have germinated.

can't see the contents of the bag very well, but almost certainly they are sanam variety, as are about 75% of all chillies grown in India, and therefore exported. Next most exported is mundu, which are spherical.

If, when they are fully grown you can send a photo, then I can make a more definite identification. Sanam are about 3 -4 inches long, straight on one side, but curved on the other, ending in a point. About half to three quaters of an inch wide. Medium red, medium heat. Also known as S4

Thanks, Lapis. I will post a link to a picture when they are fully grown.

I quite often grow a few plants from the chilli seeds from my spice box. They almost always gives me good results.

Indians do not pack/use/sell chillies by their names generally. They are simply called hot, medium, or mild.
