Hi Mamta, I bought some of this asofetida from a local indian grocery shop and it's in roundish balls about a cm in diameter. I was just wondering how to use this. can i make powder from it, as I normally buy asofetida compound.

Heat a gridle. Place 1 tsb. of asfoetida lumps with 1 tsp. of chapatti/brown flour on it and stir it around with a tablespoon. As it heats, just press it gently and it will break up into powder very easily. Then store it in a small container and use it as powder.

Thankyou for the reply. I did that and it worked fine. For some reason though it doesn't seem to smell and taste as strong ans the compound.

It will be fine when you add it to hot ghee or oil, as long as you didn't burn it.
