I was reading the recipe for Masaledar Tandoori Murga - 4 .. can you please advice me why are we suppose to insert only cloves & garlic in the chicken cavity and in the cuts made on the chicken , is it due to a specify reason to do so .

Yes inserting cloves, as well as garlic cloves give a nice flavour. You don't have to, you can add these to the marinade.
