I like to eat in Indian restaurants but am always watching myweight. I believe the healthier option is Tandori, is this correct. I love sauces so which would be the less fattening option?

Well done Adrienne! I have also lost around 3.5 stone following a low fat/low sugar/limited carbs diet (Slimming World, mainly the red plan - and that isn't an advert!).

My tips for weight-loss friendly Indian food are:

from restaurants, go for the Tandoori/shashlik choice or if you want a low-meat/veggie/SW 'green day' option, vegetable biryani.

for home cooking, avoid the creamy dishes or use low fat yoghurt or creme freche instead of yoghurt and cream. Use spray oil to cook your spices instead of regular oil and if it gets too dry, add a slop (that's a technical term!) of water.

During the entire period I was losing weight I had an indian takeaway every single week, usually either a Tandoori mixed grill or a Chicken Shashlik, without rice or naan bread. I have now kept the weight off for over 3 years and still eat Indian food at least once a week. I have a great recipe for a low fat rogan josh if you are interested.

Please do share your recipe here... is it your own or did you find it in a book? If you took your starting point from a book but then made significant adaptations, then it counts as your own - as long as you use your own words for the instructions. So anyway, if it's your own, would you be willing to share it with us? Give us your full name too so we can ensure that we put it up under your name!

I use olive oil rather than ghee and only just enough... don't do a lot of deep frying and tend to make everything from scratch so I know just whats in it...

I love the dish mentioned in the subject line from our favorite restuarant (who won't part with the recipe)--have you heard of it and if so can you pass the recipe on? Unfortunatly we live almost 2 hours from this restaurant and want to make something similar here at home. Thanks!

Hello Steve

Descibe the Chicken Labradar to me please. I have only heard of this once before, when someone asked me what it was. I seem to remember that it was a chicken curry of some sort, called by a different name.
