I made a lovely Sunday roast yesterday.
www.mamtaskitchen.co...
I adapted this recipe to a full chicken ? and left it to marinate in the fridge for two days. Put it in my daughters lunch box and shook it periodically.
Then I roasted it as usual and served up with all the trimmings. Garlic Bread, Roasters, Yorkshire puddings; two different types of stuffing ? one with garliec, chilli peppers and coriander and one more traditional.
It was delicious ? we scoffed half of it and put the other half on the work top to cool down for sarnies today. Was really looking forward to all the trimmings on the sarnies today ? bang goes the diet!!!
Went back into the kitchen later on to pick at the meat and stuffing ? as you do!! VANISHED!!!
Bloomin hound has SCOFFED THE LOT!!!! bones, stuffing the lot!!! And the curry flavour did not seem to bother her!!!!
So bang goes my lovely sarnies!!!! The thing was we could not scold her for laughing!!!
chicken bones in a dog, very dangerous, please watch her very carefully, especially for signs of bleeding from her rear end. I've known dogs die from eating chicken bones.
I hope everything is OK, maybe a chat with a vet would be sensible.
I'm sorry if it is inappropriate, but I thought it important.
Normal ceviche resumed as soon as possible. ;?)
I have heard that chicken bones or any bones from a bird are dangerous to a dog and can get stuck in their throats. I always avoid giving our dogs chicken bones - curried or not ;-)
I used to know someone who had a little dog that would tip the bin over and eat any left over bones be it chicken, turkey, pork etc... even though it was fed on tins of dog food that were nearly the same size as it (wasn't one of these muscle bound dogs just a little thing)... it never had any problems... must have eaten hundreds of chickens... !
(oddly animals are quite good at eating other animals as thats what they are designed to do... I suppose hard chicken bones can splinter and become sharp but I'm sure its only the same sort of risk as saying don't feed dogs with dog food as they might get it lodged in their throats...)
Steve
No! Never give animals chicken bones, whatever size they are. They can cause, well, I won't go into details, but you can imagine the worst. Its not getting stuck in the throat that's the problem (and it can be a life and death problem, believe me) its in the gut that things can (and will) go very badly wrong for the mut.
A friend's labrador (ie not a small dog) didn't make it.
Please, just because something didn't happen one time, or even several times, doesn't mean it won't happen eventually. Call it Russian roulette, if you want.
Tempt fate, and fate will bite you very hard, one day.
Lapis, I'm sure you are right but this little dog would knock the full sized dustbin over and eat them anyway !.... it was never fed them !
Steve
well, if you knew it did this, then so did the owners, so why did they let it happen. I can see that it happening once is a nasty awakening, but after that? Did these people not realize they could kill their dog by letting it rumage in the bin?
I grew up with a dog that used to steal dirty washing out of a dirty washing bin, and we would have to leave a trail of food away from her chewing position to distract her so that we could retrieve the clothes. We even put the dirty laundry in a pedal bin, but she worked out how to use that, too.
Just to let you know that our hound was fine and no worse the ware for eating the curried chicken!!
She is a Husky which are bred to eat pretty much anything. We know this and usually put food in the microwave rather than leaving on the counter to cool. I cant think why we didn't do it this time.
We have tried to discourage our dog from stealing food - but even an Indian carry out left on the counter didnt deter her!!
The story of the dog going bin raking reminds me of my Mums dog when I was growing up - she used to escape out the garden every bin day and go through all the bins in the neighbourhood eating bones. My mother used to be horrified but you just could not keep her in for any lenghth of time.
She lived until she was fourteen and died of an unrelated illness.
OBTW Mamta - the marinade for roast lamb works just as well for chicken what I got to taste of it !!
Fiona
Glad to hear your dog is okay Fiona. She has good taste in food, enjoying a curry ;-).
Yes, the marinade works for lamb/beef, even fish :-)!

Hi everyone
Fiona I can relate to dogs and chicken bones. I grew up in a small town where there was a KFC store (the only takeaway place)which had not been open long, so it was very popular with the locals.
Mind you it was a long time ago, about 1973 to be exact.
We had a a dog called Sniffer who was a heinz57 but looked like a Jack Russell cross. He used to love his walks, was always very active and had a good appetite. I think mum rescued him from the dogpound.
Then we noticed that he started to sleep all day, we were very concerned. The Vet visit gave him a clean bill of health so we thought maybe we were imagining things.
I never forgot one early morning (about 3am) driving home, as I came nearer to the KFC store I saw this little black and white dog (yes Sniffer) standing between cars joying the chicken bones being thrown out to him by 'well meaning' diners!
Now we knew why he slept all day:) LOL
From then on Sniffer stayed in the house and was only allowed out for 'walkies and toilet breaks'
Mind you every time we went anywhere near the KFC store he would look longingly at it and then back to his walker (me)in utter disgust!
Ahhhhh happy memories

the image that brings to mind of the little dog thinking, right its about time I sneak out for some fried chicken.... ! LOL
