I have lentil Vadas/Patties that are made from Urad/Moong dal, see Vada. You cook them up to step 6 to 8 of this recipe and serve them with green chutney/sauce. If you are going to serve them as snacks, that is without yoghurt, add some chopped green chillies and onions/ginger/other vegetables like boiled carrots and peas to the batter. This will make them taste nicer.

You may have had dal Tikia/Tikki, made from Arhar (Tur Or Tuvar) dals or dry peas, which are also easy to make. Let me see if I can write down the recipe for you. I sometimes make them from left-over dal that has become solid in the fridge.
