looking at the safety data file, it is soluble in water (1.7g/L if I remember correctly). Therefore, washing in warm plain water will remove any traces on the lemon. Hope that helps.

I always scrub pickling lemons with a potato brush, under hot water, just to be on the safe side. I also do this if I want to use the rind.
