Last week my daughter asked me to show her how to make a curry properly... without jars and such...
So last week letting her do the work being prompted by me she had a go...
This week she came up again and wanted to try for herself....
I'm just packing the leftovers up for her...
It was just to show her the basics, browning onion, cooking meat adding spices, adding tomatoes etc... The rice is also my special version of "pilau" but is really more like a byriani without meat! (she always wants me making it when they come up for a curry)

Great picture Steve, you must be a good teacher.
Just thought there is probably ?15 of 'ready meals' there with the Nan, at Supermarket prices, and that's just the 'leftovers!
Out of curiosity looked some of the ingredients in supermarket curry sauces. Listed in proportion to amount used in the top five were invariably water, oil and Modified Maize Starch (E1422 - used as a 'bulker!)
to true Winton, you think like that and its easy to see who some families spend money just on food where they could be saving quite a lot by making it themselves...
(roughly speaking)
2 packs of chicken breasts came to about ?10
a few pound (in money) of onions
about ?1 of peppers
lets say ?2 of spices
another ?1 of fresh garlic and corriander
?1 for a bag of rice
what you see in the pictures was left over after feeding 4 of us and you can't see the other tub that went in the freezer... you go and buy the cheapest shop bought curry meal and its going to be ?3 ? .. you get one of the more decent and well made ones and its going to be at least ?5 maybe more.... !
so you could have made lets say 8 to 10 meals like that for about ?20 ! rather than 10 meals x ?5 coming out at ?50 (and better than the cost, you know whats gone in them !!)
