where have you deleted them?..on the camera?..on the pc?.. or on the server?

there is a chance you can run some recovery software and get them back if you haven't put any more data on the harddrive or memory card they were on... they might even be still sat in a temporary internet file or even the recycle bin !

I don't know how to do any of that. They were downloading from the camera, nearly done. At the last step, when you click Finish, I pressed the X, like you do ion POP-UPS, on the box. I was doing something else too and just didn't think! I have looked in recycle box, camera disc, not there!

I have taken another of the finished product, but the pictures of steps are gone.

Mum, I'd be surprised if they are gone from the card?

If you start the process of downloading them again, see what happens?

:(

PS I did this day before yesterday, I had copied photos of some strawberries and cream to computer and accidentally deleted them from the computer completely.

Luckily for me, Pete had not yet erased them from the card (it was on his card from his camera).

No, they are not on the card Kav. I always take the option - delete after copying to file. They just did not appear on file. not to worry, I have the finished product picture that I took again. I will make it again one day soon, it is sooooo easy.

I never use that option, incase the data does not copy over correctly!

Always better to copy without deleting from the card, make sure the copies are OK, not corrupted, you can open them etc, and THEN reformat the card IN THE CAMERA, that will delete the images, don't let the computer do it.

you stand a chance that they may still be recoverable using a recovery program..

you wouldn't want to use the camera until you've tried though ! If you take more photos it could be writing over the place where the old ones are still on the card !

The way deleting normally works (unless you use a secure delete program) is like this -

Imagine the harddrive/camera card/usb stick etc is like a giant filing cabinet and everything you write/download/save etc is put into those filing cabinets. Now when you store something in the cabinet you have a list on the front that says Drawer 1 - word documents in middle/holiday photos at front/cheesecake recipe at back

Drawer 2 - photos from holiday at back

Drawer 3 - photo editing program full drawer

Drawer 4 - holiday photos at front/saved files from photo editing program at back

etc (you get the picture)

Now if you/the computer want to find something in the drawer/harddrive say "photos from holiday" you look on the list/computer scans the drive list and works out which drawer its in and gets its out.

If you delete something all that normally happens is the name is removed from the list ! The actual file isn't removed from the drawer unless the space is needed. So if you had "deleted drawer 2" by wiping the name off the list, the files would still be in the drawer if you searched through (using a recovery program). If you carried on storing things in the drawers and according to the list drawer 2 was empty and you found a file in it you would then throw that file away and put your new one in. This is why you shouldn't use the camera until you've checked as you might be storing new information over the old !....

Steve, thanks, you are a Gem :-).

Kavey and Steve, I found them! My nephew who was here, was using my computer, took some pitrues and downloaded them in his folder on my computer. That meant that the address in the 'Browse' window at which my photoes are saved, was his folder address and the pictures had gone into that! I never change that adress because no one else uses it :-). So, I have them now and will post them on the recipe later. I am happy!

I am going out to a gardening demonstartion (hanging basket making) at a garden centre in a minute.
