To save me doing a massive open ended search and counting...
How many recipes are on this site ?
It just occured to me as I was reading through some posts that nearly every single recipe that is asked about (and more besides) is already on here ! Thats some work thats gone into all the making and documenting in the first place and then putting it all on line after. To which I'm sure we are all greatful for your time and work.
So is it a known number ? (actual recipes by yourself Mamta and how many extras by other contributers?)
How many recipes did you have originally when it was first decided to put them online ?
What was the first recipe you ever wrote down? and was this because you wanted to start a collection or just to help remind yourself ?
Why do I feel like I'm doing an interview?.. lol
Steve
I thought I'd just get a rough idea as to how many recipes by doing a search for recipes without putting anything in to narrow it down (so presumably getting all the recipes that are available). I then counted how many where showing on one page, then scrolled down a page at a time counting how many pages...
so would you be shocked that it was 80.... ?
sounds quite a lot doesn't it... I mean I love cooking and over the years have put some of my better recipes (and more often than not, recipes I might struggle to remember properly or would change over time) down on paper / online but I bet theres not more than 30 of my recipes written down (if indeed that many..)
but hang on... how shocked would you be if I actually said it was 80 pages !! not 80 recipes ! with roughly 15 recipes per page !!!!
I am truely stunned !!
my rough maths says thats a lot ! My calculator says its 1200 recipes there abouts....
!
!

(I'm so shocked I almost can't type)
Hello Steve
How interesting!
There are 1016 recipes here. You get this number if you search with search window blank.
I couldn't tell you how many are mine, Pete might know.
Started with one recipe (LOL!!). The site started to write my recipes down for Kavey, Neeta and other nephews and nieces. It just snowballed from there.
I am not sure, but the first one was chicken curry I think! Kavey was not involved. My nephew in India had opened a site for me, I sent recipes to him and he added them. he is a busy young man, so my elder brother Ashok, who is very computer savvy (he was an engineer) took over. But it was still difficult, because he lives in India too. Eventually Kavey and Pete very kindly agreed to design and run the site for me. And rest is history as they say! You can read some of this if you click on the 'About' button on top of the page.

with over 1000 recipes I think the word "avalanche" fits better than "snowballed" ! lol
.. and what a fantastic site its turned into.
Steve
So it does "Your search found 1016 recipes" sometimes I really should look at what I'm doing lol.
Just read the "about" and what a great little read it makes... just another 200 pages and next years best seller is done!
Steve
Well, the great thing about this is that one can always go on expanding one's repertoire.
What fun!
Phil
The bad thing about it is that some of things that I experimented with and that came out well, I forget about and haven't been made again in a long time!
1000+ recipes, could be a different meal each day for about 3 years....
lol
Steve
More than ten years ago, we drew up a list of our top 50 recipes and posted it in our kitchen. We should do that again, since we often find ourselves scratching our heads as to what to cook for the next few days, and only about half a dozen recipes come readily to mind.
I find that I also get fed up with some of the things we cook, even though we like them.
But this website has galvanised me, so I'm expanding the range of things I can do, and am prepared to have a go at.

To Mamta and the 'crew' ..... this site is splendid. Not only for the fantstic recipes but also for all the camaradarie(?sic). You all are so welcoming and helpful and I am sure there are many of us (like myself)in countries on the other side of the world who are very, very grateful for your efforts
Ciao.
Aaw thanks!!
Sorry for all the SPAM recently - Pete and I were away on holiday for just over a week and the spammers were particularly active!
They knew you were away..... "While the mouse is away the spammers will play".... :)
Is spam the single worst thing ever invented in culinary history?
What could possibly be worse?
