i want to make gur shakkarpare but we do not get gur here in te grocerries store, so ca i use brown sugar instead of gur? if yes then light brown sugar or dark brown sugar?

Yes you can use brown sugar. Muscovado (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscovado) or Drak brown come closest in flavour to Gur or jaggery/Jagary.
