Sometimes when I go to Bolton market I see a leafy plant in with the free coriander, spinach, mint, dill and parsley. I've never heard of it and I have looked online with no luck. I know the spelling may be different to help those that don't speak or read English very well. I'm wondering if anyone knows what it is?

No probs if nobody does there are plenty of items I have no idea how to use or even what they are at the market. I have recently seen free peppercorns, (shrug). The beauty of many cultures living not far away though is great.

No kev, but then the word could be any of the several India languages. Any chance of a description or a photo? You could post the picture on https://www.facebook.com/mamtaskitchen , because we can't post them here.

Not a plant but there is a pickle called Gunda pickle, a berry like fruit with hard seed.

So it looks like they were identified on Facebook as amaranth leaves? Interesting, never cooked with these myself either!
