I see of the three variant recipes for 'Chinese Curry Sauce' only one mentions tomato paste, and then optionally.
I suppose the lesson must be that if you like the recipe as it is, then leave it out. If others want to try the tomato paste just add little by little (as it is the last ingredient.) Personally I wouldn't add it either but some people must like it added or it would not have found its way into the recipe.
