Hi Everyone,
I am arranging a small dinner party next weekend and would love some suggestions please.
I have got the starters sorted and i will be making 'mums chicken curry' as a main.
My problem is i need to make a main vegetarian dish but have no idea which recipe to use.
If anyone could reccomend their favourite veggie dish from this site i would be very gratefull.
Thanks
How about a whole curried cauliflower for a dinner party such as:

It not only tastes great but looks impressive. two tips; make two smallish cauliflowers so the spices will permeate more of the vegetable (also the carnivores will all want some) and add a good pinch of asafoetida to the onions to calm any dinner party flatulence!

Hi Winton,
Thanks for the suggestion, sounds lovely. When i went to buy Asafoetida i could only find a small yellow tub (VANDEVI compounded asafoetida) which also includes turmeric, rice flour, wheat flour & gum arabic - is this the right stuff?
Also do you have any reccomendations for a 'mixed veggie' dish?
Hello Suzi
As you are making a curry for non-vegetarians, I would recommend a vegetarian curry, choose one of these;
Matar (peas) Paneer or Mushroom Peas curry
Palak paneer
Chick pea curry
Dum Alu (potato curry). You could add a few peas to it.
It is worth making a vegetable bhaji as well, like an Indian stir-fry. Alu baingan (potatoes and aubergines) are nice.
Prawn or one of the fish curries also go well with boiled rice.
All above recipes are on this site. I am in a hurry to sort out the links for you, but they are easy to find.
have a great party.

Hi Mamta,
Thankyou for all the suggestions, i will look through them and pick one or two for the weekend.
Hello Suzi
The asafoetida powder I use is just the standard 'Schwartz' powder from the supermarket. Yes, it contains both rice flour and turmeric - I'd imagine you would need to wear protective clothing if it was pure asafoetida! The foetida is latin for stinking, but the aroma mellows considerably on cooking.
You have more suggestions from Mamta and in case you have not spotted it there is a menu planning page on-site:

Remember that when entertaining many of Mamta's recipes are good to make before and (if not better!) reheated such as the chicken curry you are planning and dahls.
