Hi - just rustling up my fav Sri Lankan chook curry for dinner (I have a day off). A thought occured to me when stripping the leaves of the twigs. Could you use the twigs as sticks for some kind of kebab? You know how you can use rosemary twigs with chunks of marinated lamb and BBQ? Yes they are a bit more flimsy than the hardwood of a rosemary plant but if you could tie a few together with damp string so they dont burn im sure you could thread some meat onto them. I broke one in half and rubbed it with my fingers and it was beautiful. Anyone heard of anyone doing this? Im half tempted to give it a go. Thoughts?

they seem too flimsy to me, but some are quite thick. I would think small twigs were very prone to catching fire. Which is more important to you, burnt/no food, or scented twigs?

I think if you soak the twigs in water for some time before using them as skewers that should avoid problems with burning?

Not heard of it, but why don't you try and get back to us? People who make it on camping, use any wooden sticks as BBQ stickss.

The curry leaves I buy only have the stalk (between their pinnate leaves), no twigs.

Yes - I mean stalks, not twigs. For sure the exposed ends of the stalks would burn but I reckon the stalk inside the meat wouldnt. It would just get very hot. I will soak them in water the same way I do with wooden skewers. I might try it on just a few pieces of thin plain chicken breast. I just love the earthy, mushroomy smell of fresh leaves (and now the stalks). Will let you know.
