Not the usual topics on here but as I'm here eating a tin of soup from the shop as I've just been for a tooth filling!

Its a well known brand of 57 varieties ! but it reminded us that years ago they went through a phase of adding extra flavours to their recipes to make them extra special....

The cream of vegetable I thought had cheese but I'm being told it wasn't but she can't remember what it was (thought it was something green?)

Pea and Ham soup again I thought they added cheese to that ?

can anyone remember them ?...

For me the tomato soup is elevated with a healthy dose of tabasco and/or Worcestershire Sauce.

Hope you are soon feeling better.

PS I'm more conversant with Campbells Condensed Soups (now taken over by a group of unmarried men - crossword clue!) which do actually make a good basis for some sauces when you are in a hurry.

it might be one of those 'food industry ingredients' that is not food, but added for some effect or another. Often its wall paper paste, or 'catering sawdust', or bacteria produced sugars, or even gut bacteria from new born babies (bifidus)! What next?? H***z have altered their oxtail soup recipe to include a thickening agent, if I want to paint my walls, I'll use paint, thanks ;?) !!

Hmmm, that sounds really nice ? NOT! The only thing I tend to use on a regular basis in a tin is tomatoes.

I must not have put it down right...

what I'm asking about is the H.... brand who years ago (maybe 20) made their normal soups slightly different and had it on the label as the new version. If memory serves it only lasted about a year then they took the extras out and went back the old recipes..

They changed from things like "pea and ham" to "pea and ham with mint" (that might be one of them exactly... that just came to me and it would make sense to have mint with peas

Which would also mean that my first thought of "cream of veg" getting the addition of cheese...

does it ring any bells to anyone ?
