Hi has anyone used a burr grinder for grinding spices? Are they any good?

They are great grinders, my husband uses one for coffee. I'll ask him to pop on and explain difference in operation/ results.

They're preferred for coffee because it's easier to get an even sized grind - blade grinders produce a more uneven texture, unless you're grinding to a powder. I suspect that aspect of it is less important when it comes to spices.

We've got a blade grinder for spices, because it's a lot easier to clean and can handle wet/soft ingredients - you can't, for example, add fresh herbs into a spice grind when using a burr grinder.

So, short answer is yes, they're great for some things but are less flexible than blade ones.

(that's probably not as helpful an answer as you were hoping for!)

I've added the grinder we use for spices to our Amazon store, in case you're interested. It's not cheap, but it's a great little gadget.

Thank you for all your comments. I do like the look of the wet+dry grinder in mamta's kitchen amazon store

I've been using the same Bodum coffee grinder (Model 11160) for grinding spices a couple of years now. I can't fault it. Occasionally something like a heavily barked cinnamon stick takes a bit more grinding but I sieve the ingredients & regrind the bigger bits.

Hope this helps.
