Any one who wants to know how to built a tandoor in their back garden get in touch with me ...I have just built one in my back garden
When you say a tandoor do you mean a very large clay 'pot' (for want of a better word) built up around with the fie box or a sealed fire oven (much like those used across the mediterranean? (either one would be an impressive self build, pity we can't see a picture).

Rather then asking for people to get in touch with you, how about posting some information about how you built your tandoor - the materials you used, specifications on building it and so on.
Even some pictures would be great if you can provide links.
Can you post the details of the site please, or let me have your contact details. We've built an outside kitchen area with a pizza oven and barbecue and would love to add a tandoor oven.
Have seen many made from an oil drum filled with concrete and glass - will email and try and find out the details. I bought an electric one in Goa - it is basically a metal box with a 2kwt element top and bottom with a drawer in-between. Brilliant for cooking chicken tikka, paneer and bread but not so good for larger pieces of chicken - burns before cooking.
I seem to remember a website with instructions on building one - when we have had dinner I will come back and look for it. Been on this site too long now - dinner long overdue - your fault!!!!
Found one of the ones I have read before:-

This is the more elaborate one:-

and this is the oil drum one

Most of the oven build projects I looked at tend to use fire bricks (to withstand the heat) but watching a program on cooking the other day (might have been the hairy bikers) they were using an big fire inside type oven and the base just looked like either clay or mud ?

hi there, a home tandoor sounds brill, we would love to know how u have done this as we want to do one!! always wanted to exsperience it for mi self , love indian foods ect ..
Great idea! We're planning, once we have the cash, to have a stone structure built next to the swimming pool, with a sink, cupboards, and a barbecue. A tandoor would be a great addition to this.
Here you go Phil:

This is what I was going to do but unfortunately havent had the time.
Cheers
Steve
Oh that villagok tandoor is beautiful, the cylindrical ones demands some DIY skills and is not easy to construct. I would go for a rectangle one.... In the meantime i will keep dreaming ...maybe this year ..maybe.
Thanks, Steve: it looks great! I won't be doing it myself (I'm useless at practical things), but if I print this stuff out and translate it for my French stonemason, it'd be a fantastic addition to the poolside area.
I'm already dreaming of Indian lunches by the pool in the summer months!
