I've enjoyed Bombay Duck in the past (1980's) but it disappeared from restaurant menus I believe because of Health & Safety issues.
Did you know you can now get it? I sourced it through Spices of India, Bristol Sweet Mart and The Asian Cook Shop.
Long live the 80's! (Phall I remember was popular too at that time!).
Regards,
Martin.
Bombay Duck was banned despite the EC admitting that "it had no "sanitary" evidence against the product and the UK Public Health Laboratory Service confirmed that there were no recorded cases of food poisoning, or bacterial contamination, associated with Bombay duck."
Anyway the Indian High Commission lobbied the EU and the bureaucratic packaging rules were changed.
Saw headline this morning about cancer and curry. However it turned out to be a 'good news story' in that the curcumin in tumeric in curry significantly improves the treatment of bowel cancer as well as in strokes and dementia. Phew!
We Indians use turmeric in all sorts of remedies. This one may sound weird to you, but works; if you have joint/body aches, add 1/2 tsp. turmeric to hot milk, along with some honey and drink it at bed time. Turmeric is recognised as anti-inflammatory.
I read somewhere not long ago that some work is being carried out to find out if it is beneficial in alzheimer's.
I just did a course for two a couple of weeks ago, that I had donated to my younger daughter's best friend's 10th memorial celebration. They were auctioning thing's to raise money to donate to this friend's favourite charity.
I don't think Kavey has planned any further courses at the moment, but if you are interested, we can talk about it. It will of course have to be different from before. What type of things will you be interested in?
Am happy to help you run more classes ma, let's discuss dates on phone during week? Have had some others express interest also.
No Mamta, I don't think it weird at all!
I told my Aunt who had bad arthritis in her knees, about the milk and turmeric hot drink several years ago, after Italian scientists had good results in their research.
She claimed it was more effective than her prescription-only painkillers, with none of the side effects.
A couple of days ago someone was using my vegetable knife and she slipped and sliced into the top of her finger. There was blood everywhere and it just wouldn't stop bleeding. In my wisdom (call me stupid if you want) I got some turmeric powder and stuck her finger in it...and after the initial sting (and dirty look) it stopped the bleeding.
