Hi folks,

Can any of you recommend your favourite chicken curry recipe on this site? I need a real winner for a dinner party on Saturday?

Many thanks!

James.

Hi,

My favourites = chicken curry from SriLanka / SriLankan chicken curry and

Butter chicken / Murgh Makani.

Both taste entirely different, but are the tops for me.

Or for dry starters I would suggest Tandoori Chicken, or chicken tikka.

Cheers.

Thanks Rajneesh.

Both sound great and I have seen much praise on the site for Sri Lankan Chicken - I think I will give it a go!!

Hi james,

For health reasons I do not use butter in BUtter chicken curry, just sunflower/olive oil(i feel it does not compromise the taste), and those cashews and tomatoes gives it a fantabulous taste.

I prefer to use low fat coconut milk in Sri Lankan chicken curry as well.

Rajneesh,

I have just found out one of the guests is vegetarian, but eats seafood. In your opinion, would the flavours / spice mix of the Sri Lankan curry work well with tiger prawns?

Thanks!

James.

Well why not? I would say, can use the same curry sauce for prawns as well. If you go to the search section and look at the recipes like = South Indian Fish curry, Prawn curry (mamtas and nani mayas)etc, in all the recipes coconut milk / cream is used. Try these recipes for your prawns as well.

Cheers.

Sri Lankan cooks often use spice powders in their recipes, these can be of two types, one is roasted, the other not. I would use the unroasted one for seafood or fish.

Hi James

To agree, the Sri Lankan curry recipe is always a complete winner. I've never made it for anyone and they not requested the recipe!

Alternatively the Bengali and Afghansti curries make good changes when the guests want to come back for seconds!

But as always to repeat the litany also buy the best quality chicken you can afford. It is the main ingredient!

I believe the prawn patia recipe is popular.

For vegetarian dishes I adore the Shahi Paneer, even though it uses a shop-bought spice mix (gasp! ;) and I love mum's chickpea curry too. So simply, but so tasty.

Her various aubergine dishes are great too!
