I'm wanting to make the basic curry sauce, but, as this is the first time I've cooked anything like this, I've a few questions.

  1. Is this a full curry recipe. What I mean by this is I've seen some basic recipes that are the base from which to add other spices etc, depending on the type of curry you want to finally end up with.

  1. I will be cooking this for my wife and two children so need to know how mild is/ can I make this? Other than leaving out the chili, is there any other ingredients that affects the hotness of this recipe?

  1. What number of servings would this recipes make?

Thanks in advance

Hi Lee,

do you mean this basic curry sauce recipe ?

If so yes thats a full but basic sauce, you can add things into it to create even more flavours and interest ( chunks of red/green peppers, onions, tomatos etc to give it more body, cream or yoghurt to thicken and make a creamier sauce etc)if you look near the bottom of the recipe there are several alternative endings... lol

You should find that Mamta doesn't go for extremely hot curries so you should be able to make it as it comes and not find it too hot. However if you are particular sensitive to heat then ease off on the chillies (don't totally remove them though as you will alter the flavours), pepper can be hot and even ginger can give a little kick.... cream and yoghurt help to make it milder though...

Happy cooking

Hello Lee

Steve has answered your questions already :-).

Yes it is a full curry recipe that can be used to make most curries.

Yes, you can add/remove spices according to your taste and availability.

Chillies, black peppers and garam masala are the spices that make a curry hot, so reduce or remove completely as you wish.

As it says, this quantity is enough for approximately 500 gm. of vegetables or meat or chicken, which will serve 2-3-4 depending on how hungry people are how fond they are of the dish that you are making and how many other dishes you are making along with it.

Good luck!
