Looking forward to the replys. How many people are you expecting at your dinner?
Cheers

Starter
Indians often serve a spicy soup in very small mugs (you could disposable ones), along with tit bits. You could make any soup of choice, but tomato soup is really good for this purpose. Spice it up with a little chaat masala, add some very, very finely chopped coriander leaves and then temper it with cumin seeds spluttered in minimal hot oil. You don?t want oil floating on top of your soup.
You can serve Mixed vegetable pakoras with it; recipe 12803 or recipe 12975. Make some green coriander mint chutney with it, recipe 10086.
Main
Tandoori Roast Lamb will be good, serve it with plain pilaf, recipe 10108 or Peas Pilaf 10147.
You might want to make a fish/prawn/chicken curry and a vegetable dish, like chickpea curry or a seasonal vegetable bhaji.
Make a raita of choice; 12824
Dessert
If you were to make a dessert like a kulfi or Indian rice pudding, you can make a bowl of it with a sugar free sweetner for yourself and for anyone else who can not eat sugar. Srikhand, 12916 or 10385 is also nice and easy.
Sorry for not giving you links, I am not using my computer at the moment and don't have the link 'formula' to write links! Also, I find typing on lap top very hard :-(

Hi mamta! Thanks for the reply, That looks very nice. I was aiming at a selection of small starters, but soup is a fine idea! with a few small eat things!
I never thought of rice pudding, that would be different and I can use sweetener.
The meal will be for 6 it is an Indian evening for our cookery club!
The last time I done an Indian evening for them they did really enjoy it and wanted to repaet it, so this is my chance.
I did once (for my 50th) do an Indian evening for 80, that also turned out great even for the local Germans who are in the main not into really spiced (hot) foods. They all camr back for seconds!

If you get chance don't forget to take some pics (anything, making the recipes, finished product or even the event.. ) would be nice to see how things go !

Yes, yes, yes please, we are always looking for pictures where there are none or there are only bad ones. Thanks for the reminder Steve :-)!
I always serve a fresh fruit salad with some yogurt as a dessert if I have served guests Indian food. It is always well received. There are so many lovely exotic fruits available these days.
I will be watching the outcome with interest.
if i am making an indian feast i normally make kulfi ice cream, fruit salad, and rice pudding - made with basmati rice, green cardamom powder, rose water, and pistachos. then people can choose what they want.
when i was in egypt i ate a dessert but i couldn't tell you what it was but it was devine. i wish i knew what it was called so i could make it at home. it was like a thick moose and cut into slices like a cake.
Lol! of course I shall be taking pictures, I am one of those sad people that take pictures of all of the prep as well as the finished food.
I have just been sifting through the recipes and have found some great ideas, the tomato and carrot soup is a definite starter!

Tomato and orange is nice and so is carrot and coriander, but my favourite, and not necessarily Indian is butternut squash and habanero pepper soup.
Thanks DS, please send your pictures and send them to me via the contact link. We might be able to use them here.
All items do not have to be Indian, it is quite acceptable to mix and match these days, especially if they are different courses. So a hot squash soup sgould also be fine, though personally, I like the sound of tomato and carrot soup.
Have a great birthday and a wonderful party.
Happy Birthday!
Theres nothing sad about taking photos of prep work !...
whistles, tries not to look guilty of it
