Luckily the problem was one Pete was able to fix remotely.
Our site hosting company made some changes to the way they handle PHP - wasn't meant to affect any websites but did - Pete was able to get in remotely and fix things without needing access to much as otherwise it would have had to wait 24 hours!

It happened late in evening, must have been time the site hosting company implemented the changes.
I'd just got home when John and Steve's messages came through, called Pete, once he got to friend's house, he was able to make necessary changes!
