This looks like a good buy; http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_14887.htm?WT.mc_id=2010-07-19-12-36
I also love their sliced, pickled gherkins, nice in salads.
I looked for their gherkins on weekend but didn't have those nice ones you had in fridge... is it definitely Aldi not Lidl?
May be the ones you had were from Liddl. There are some there from this Thursday, but round cut, not sandwich cut.
I think the fresh vegetables from Aldi are reasonably priced and of good quality. Where I live ? in North Wales ? the Aldi stores don't stock as much fresh produce as all the other supermarkets, but when I get the chance I like shopping at Aldi and Lidl.
Yes, it is like harvesting what there is fron your garden and then deciding what to cook :-)!
As an ex chef I shop in any shop on instinct, I scan left and right up and down the aisles, spot something and think what I could make with this! Read the label and buy it.! Continue with the same process through the shop!
While we are on shopping, thought I'd share this I found out today:
The garlic price is currently so high as,
however, the good news is, the price will have to come down late autumn as the stock piled garlic will need to be sold before it rots and is overtaken by the new next season's crop
Winton
Now apparently the Greeks are stock piling their olive oil to push the price up to help their fragile economy. So the recommendations now are; Garlic - SELL! Olive Oil - BUY!
I love Aldi. We get all our groceries from there once a week. Got my slow cooker from there too - only $40 - BARGAIN!. The meats excellent and always fresh fruit and vegies. And the best bit is we save money by shopping there.
Cheers
